Prior to UFC 129 Randy “The Natural” Couture said that his fight against Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida would be his last.
Couture entered the UFC at UFC 13 in front of a little over 5000 fans and he couldn’t have picked a bigger stage to exit on, in front of 55,000 fans at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
Machida staggered Couture a bit with a right hand about a minute into the fight. Couture then returned the favor thirty seconds later with a left that had Machida backing up.
Machida then came in for a quick exchange and backed out before Couture could catch him with a counter.
With 80 seconds left in round one Couture tried to get Machida up against the cage, but Machida avoided the clinch.
Machida delivered a perfect front kick right on the chin of Couture sending him to the ground in a kick that was very reminiscent of the one Anderson Silva used to stop Vitor Belfort.
The fight was stopped at the 1:05 round two and Machida thanks his father as well as Steven Seagal for the kick.
Joe Rogan asked Couture if this was truly it and he said that he will not be back.
Couture received a huge round of applause as he stood in the center of the Octagon.
