JaVale McGee momentarily forgot what sport he was playing and channeled his inner volleyball for the most blatantly obvious goaltend in the history of the NBA.

The swat was nonsensical and was an act that left those who saw it wondering, "Why would he do that?"

It's a question that even McGee himself is highly unlikely to have the answer to. According to Ben Golliver of CBSSports.com, the move resulted in McGee's benching.

This little outburst doesn't make McGee a bad person, and it's not a huge ordeal, but it's another puzzling incident on McGee's laundry list of odd actions.

This might not be a suspension for a bar fight, but his benching for the obnoxious goaltend is reminiscent of his benching for his unnecessary self alley-oop that landed him on the pine.

Unnecessary and inexplicable are phrases that continue to describe McGee's actions, both on and off the court.

Regardless, the never dull McGee provides us with another bizarre highlight that leaves the masses scratching their heads. He's a guy who's impossible to figure out and someone whose actions have become a liability.

This small instance is a reminder that when McGee takes the floor, anything can happen.

The last day of basketball before the NBA All-Star break is going to feature some great basketball.

The New York Knicks traveling to take on the Miami Heat is going to be one of those must watch games.

Both of these teams are extremely hot as Miami has won seven games in a row, and New York has won nine of their last 11. You can expect both of these teams to make deep runs in the playoffs, and it wouldn't be surprising if this ended up becoming a preview of the Eastern Conference finals.

There's a lot of star power, from LeBron James and Dwayne Wade to Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin. Don't miss this matchup as it's going to be a fantastic contest.

Here's all the information you need regarding this matchup.

Where: AmericanAirlines Arena, Miami, FL

When: February 23, 2012, 7:00 p.m. ET

Watch: TNT, WAXY and WEPN

Live Stream: NBA League Pass

Betting Line: Heat -10

Key Injuries (via USA Today):

Miami: Terrel Harris - Illness (Questionable)

New York: Iman Shumpert - Knee (Questionable)

Bill Walker - Elbow (Questionable)

Josh Harrellson - Wrist (Out)

What's at Stake?

Not only is this a rivalry game and both teams want to win, but it's a statement game as well. Miami wants to continue on their hot streak and build on their best record in the NBA. While New York wants to prove that they are contenders not only in the East, but the entire league.

Many were quick to write them off, but with their recent play, they're beginning to turn heads. A win in Miami would prove a lot to many who are still on the fence with this team.

What They're Saying:

Jeremy Lin talks about the chemistry the Knicks are trying to build on with so many new players entering the team in the middle of the season.

"We're not in panic mode, because it doesn't just work where all of sudden people show up and you have great chemistry," Lin said. "So we're going to have to work through some struggles, so as long as we're all committed and buying in, we'll be fine."

Most Important Player to Watch:

Enough of the Lin talk for a minute. The most important player in this game to me is Carmelo Anthony. He's the one that's missed time and has to adjust to the way the team has been playing so many games without him. In his two games back, he has scored a combined 26 points on 11-of-27 shooting, which isn't exactly what we're used to seeing from him.

He's had much success against LeBron James in his career as his teams are 9-4 against his. But he's really going to have to step it up if the Knicks expect to pull off the upset in this one. Judging by Lin's track record as of late, he's going to score his and set up his teammates. It's time for Anthony to answer the bell and play the way he's capable of.

Key Matchup:

Jeremy Lin against Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole

You knew more Lin talk was coming, and why not? After all, he's been playing amazing basketball lately as you've been reminded over and over. But just how will he adapt to arguably the quickest team in the league? Especially against a team that's ranked sixth in the NBA in steals and against Chalmers who has 42 steals on the season. (Which is 17th most among guards this season)

We know one of Lin's key weaknesses is turnovers, and playing against one of the better defensive teams in the league and one that forces a lot of turnovers will pose a challenge to the young player who's still learning.

Prediction:

It's really hard to pick against Miami with the way they're playing recently, and that's exactly why I'm not going to do it here. Miami is clicking on all cylinders and have the home crowd behind them—a place where they are 14-2 this season.

New York is playing great basketball lately, but with Carmelo Anthony just coming back and having to adjust to Jeremy Lin, it's going to take some time. The Knicks looked great against the Hawks last night, although Atlanta is a team that's lost five of the last six games.

It should be a close and exciting game, but I'm not betting against Miami until they give me a reason to.

Miami wins: 106-98

Randy Chambers is a B/R Featured Columnist.

From epic start to epic collapse to epic finish, it was a wild ride for the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

The Warriors leaped out to a 21-point lead in the second quarter against the Phoenix Suns and looked to be on complete cruise control on the road. This was not a common occurrence for Golden State during this 2011-12 season.

Problem was, they took the “cruise” part of cruise control to heart. Carelessness and an overall lack of aggressiveness got the Suns right back in it. Channing Frye and Marcin Gortat combining for 43 points and 24 rebounds certainly didn’t help.

With the game tied a 102 and the clock ticking down, Monta Ellis decided he was going to ensure Golden State didn’t go into the All-Star break with a bitter taste in their mouth.

With time running out and only Grant Hill in is way, Ellis used his blazing fast speed to create separation. Hill’s defense wasn’t that bad, as he was able to recover and still get a hand up on Ellis’ fade away…but it didn’t matter.

Swish.

Ellis drilled the jumper and put the Warriors up 106-104 with a second left, all but sealing the deal. A Frye three-pointer at the buzzer was off the rim and the Warriors avoided the horrific collapse.

Ellis finished with 26 points and six assists including one game winner. Many believed Ellis was an All-Star snub and hitting a game-winner less than four days before the game sends a clear message that the league messed up.

Now the Warriors enter the All-Star break at 13-17, with a glimmer of hope in the Western Conference. With 36 games still on the slate, Golden State is only 3.5 games away from the eighth seed.

Now the team has six days to rest up and be ready for the most grueling two month stretch the NBA has ever seen.

With the young legs of the Warriors…they’ll be ready.

Free agency tends to be a tricky process in the NFL, particularly for those teams coming off successful seasons.

With reports that free agent Joel Pryzbilla will sign with the Portland Trail Blazers, the Chicago Bulls are back at square one with looking for a third-string center.

It makes sense that Chicago is focused on filling this roster spot, as the franchise has frequently carried three men in the middle.

Last season the Bulls enlisted the services of Joakim Noah, Omer Asik and Kurt Thomas.

Thomas actually came in handy, starting 37 games when Noah went down with a foot injury. He also played substantially in the playoffs, especially against the Miami Heat.

Noah has been holding up pretty well so far this season and Asik is definitely a more polished NBA player; however, it would be hard to argue that a third center wouldn’t be nice to have.

Seeking a trade for a third-stringer hardly makes sense, so the free agent avenue should remain the means of pursuit for the Bulls management.

There is still some decent talent available, but it’s hard to guess about whom Chicago would be interested in.

If Pryzbilla is used as baseline criteria, then it is easy to deduce that the Bulls are looking for someone in the same vain as their other two centers, one who can rebound and be a defensive presence in the paint.

Since the role will be very limited, most any center in playing shape can be that guy.

Luckily for Chicago there are still some guys, seasoned and springy, still available.

If the Bulls want to go with a veteran presence, Erik Dampier and Dan Gadzuric are still available.

Dampier has been a solid contributor on just about every team he’s played for.

Last season’s stint with the Miami Heat may smolder interest, though, as he rarely played, and when he did, he did not play well.

Gadzuric made the jump to China during the lockout saga. He was released because of an injury and is looking to break back into the NBA.

He’s already worked out with the Philadelphia 76ers as well as the Los Angeles Clippers, so he seems ready to go.

If Chicago desires a more youthful player, then Kyrylo Fresenko is the guy to go after.

He’s a solid seven-footer who tips the scales at 280 pounds.

Fresenko definitely gives Chicago a size contrast to the stringier Asik and Noah.

The upside of Fresenko’s youth may also be his downfall, as it may be harder for him to come in and adjust to Thibodeau’s system.

Considering the presence of Thomas last season and the interest in Pryzbilla this season, Chicago will more than likely continue to look for a well-established center whose knowledge of the game makes up for his lack of knowing the Bulls’ scheme.

It’s hard seeing the Bulls abandoning their search since they didn’t get their guy, especially knowing how well having another big man served them last season.

Look for Chicago to press on with their search to land a middle-man insurance policy.

Follow @JDouglasDavis
